Who we are
Northern Conversions is a small, passionate campervan conversion company and team based on the Northumberland coast. We specialise in building thoughtful, practical and premium vans that feel as good to live in as they do to drive.
What started as a modest workshop and a couple of weekend projects has grown into a respected conversion brand known for craftsmanship, clean layouts and a genuinely personal approach. We still operate the same way we always have — with care, intention and a focus on designing vans that work in real life, not just on paper.
Every van is built slowly and deliberately, with every cut, cable and cabinet fitted by someone who genuinely cares about the finished result. No rushed builds, no shortcuts, no cutting corners. Just solid, dependable craft designed to last years of adventures.
We build campervans for people who value quality, comfort and long-lasting design — travellers who want a van that feels calm, durable and genuinely enjoyable to spend time in, whether it’s a quick weekend away or a long-term journey.

Our Story: Craftsmanship Built on Experience
Engineered Expertise: From Technician to Craftsman
Our story isn’t one of jumping on a trend; it’s a foundation built on authentic engineering expertise and a genuine love for adventure. It starts with Marrick, who got his first taste of conversion life in 2012, helping his father build out a VW T4. This experience was deeply rooted in professional vehicular knowledge: Marrick trained at BT Fleet, becoming a fully qualified vehicle technician and workshop supervisor.
This background meant specializing in complex vehicle electrical systems, providing the exact, non-negotiable expertise needed to pioneer our safe, gas-free, Victron/Roamer electrical setups.
The Trial-by-Road Trip
Our systems were forged on the road, not just on paper. In 2018, Marrick and Laura—partners in life and conversion—took on their first projects. After converting and selling two previous vans, they settled on their LWB Boxer, Tyson. Tyson was converted in their back garden, on evenings and weekends, before embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime journey across Europe.
That hands-on experience, living in their own craftsmanship through every climate and road type, is the ultimate assurance of a thoughtful layout and premium workmanship.
The Leap to Technical Excellence
The business was officially founded in 2019, and our commitment to quality quickly outgrew the back garden. This commitment drove the team to install services in their first workshop—a cow shed in Blagdon, Northumberland—in 2020.
Fast forward to March 2025, and we took the massive leap to our current Newbiggin HQ. This state-of-the-art facility—a former, bomb-proof fire station—has been fully renovated by our team.
It features a dedicated, 5-tonne, 2-post lift for professional vehicle access, and a dedicated spray booth for our flawless, in-house cabinet finishes.
Hands-On Craftsmanship Meets CNC Precision
Today, our team of five (including Marrick and Laura) blends traditional craftsmanship with technical innovation. We started with hand tools, and we still use those skilled hands for meticulous assembly and prep. However, we have refined our process by acquiring a high-end CNC machine and 3D scanning equipment.
This transition allows us to use CNC precision for millimeter-perfect structural components, guaranteeing the geometric perfection and structural integrity of the base units. This focus ensures every piece of custom cabinetry is robust, elegant, and looks like the true bespoke craftsmanship it is.
To ensure full visibility, we use a specialized Workshop Tracking Software introduced around 2023, providing you with a dedicated portal to track the build progress and archive the process.
This history means we build vans that work in the real world, prioritizing safety, transparency, and technical excellence for you—the next Conversion King to hit the open road.
Behind the Scenes
Every van is built in our Northumberland workshop by a small, multi-skilled campervan conversion company team who genuinely care about what they’re creating. We combine hands-on craftsmanship with modern techniques to deliver reliable, consistent results — the kind of quality you can feel the moment you step inside.
From the first strip-out to the final sign-off, each stage of the build is completed in-house by the NC team. Carpentry, electrics, plumbing, insulation and finishing all happen under one roof, with every step planned, tested and quality-checked. We use proven systems and premium components — includingRoamer Batteries’ high-performance lithium technology — to ensure your camper performs exactly as it should in everyday travel and long-term use.
We take our time with the details — the alignment of a door, the routing of a cable, the way lighting falls across the timber. It’s this level of care that gives each van its signature NC feel: refined, solid and ready for real adventure.
For specialist touches such as upholstery, we collaborate with trusted local partners — but the core craft of every build happens right here in our calm, focused workshop, where ideas turn into practical layouts and your future adventures begin to take shape.

Meet The Team
Behind every NC build is a dedicated campervan conversion company team who bring a mix of craftsmanship, precision and personality to each van.

Laura – Co-Founder / Design & Operations Director
Laura is the organiser, communicator and detail-checker behind every Northern Conversions build. She keeps schedules tight, customers updated and designs looking their best. Calm under pressure and always ten steps ahead, she’s the person making sure each van moves smoothly from first enquiry to handover day.

Marrick – Co-Founder / Technical Director
Marrick handles the technical backbone of every build — electrics, heating, plumbing and the systems that make your van feel effortless to live in. He’s meticulous, methodical and has a habit of solving problems before anyone else notices them. If it needs engineering brains, it goes through Marrick first.

Jack – Campervan Craftsman / Carpentry & Interiors Specialist
Jack has been with Northern Conversions the longest, and it shows in the quality of every van he touches. He’s the guy we lean on for the fine detailing — cabinetry, finishing and all the bits customers instantly fall in love with. Calm, methodical and ridiculously reliable, Jack brings that “solid NC standard” to every build.

Hugh – Campervan Craftsman / All-Round Build Specialist
Hugh’s the quietly unstoppable one — dedicated, ridiculously hardworking and always the first to roll up his sleeves when something needs pushing over the line. Skilled across the whole build, he’s known for his accuracy, strength and do-anything attitude. If there’s a job that needs doing right, Hugh’s already on it.

Jake – Campervan Craftsman / Paint & Finishing Specialist
The newest member of the team, Jake brings a fresh set of skills with a background in paint spraying and a sharp eye for detail. He’s also brilliant on the electrical side, adding extra strength to the workshop when wiring, systems and tidy installs are involved — without losing his craftsmanship across the rest of the build.

Charlie – Workshop Dog / Chief Morale Officer
Charlie takes his workshop role very seriously: greeting visitors, supervising snack breaks and napping exactly where he shouldn’t. He boosts team morale daily and insists on inspecting every van for cosy spots. Not the most productive member of staff, but easily the most loved.
